HAZARD PERCEPTION AND THEORY TEST
THE DSA's DRIVING THEORY TEST
In your theory test, you will be assessed on your driving attitude, traffic signs and regulations, safety in vehicles and how the environment
affects driving conditions, plus the effects of alcohol, drugs and fatigue on drivers.
The DSA theory test is split into two sections: 50 multiple choice
questions from a possible 800, to test your road safety knowledge. You
have 57 minutes to complete this section. You must get a minimum of 43
out of the 50 to pass.
The second part of the test is the Hazard Perception which comprises of 14 video clips . Thirteen of the clips contain
a single hazard and one contains two.
Both parts of the theory test must be passed on the same day and you must pass them before applying for the practical driving test.
To test your hazard perception skills. You will use a mouse to indicate when you spot a potential hazard. The quicker you are, the higher your score.

THE DSA's PRACTICAL DRIVING TEST
The test lasts approximately 35 - 40 minutes.
The test will be taken in your instructors car and you can have your instructor in the car with you on your test, if you so wish.
The test consists of driving in different road conditions (ie, town roads, country roads, dual carriageways) and you will be asked to do 2 reversing manoeuvres and you may be asked to carry out an
emergency stop.
To pass this test you must not commit more than 15 minor driving faults
THE EYESIGHT CHECK - WHICH TAKES PLACE AT THE START OF YOUR PRACTICAL DRIVING TEST
You will be asked to read a vehicle registration number plate at a distance of approximately 20.5 meters in order to continue with your driving test.
SAFETY CHECKS (KNOWN AS "SHOW ME - TELL ME" QUESTIONS)
This part of the test can be revised at the DSA web site showing examples of the Show Me-Tell Me questions.
You will be asked to carry out 2 basic safety checks on the vehicle.
